How these pages are written and kept accurate

Health insurance decisions involve real money, so these are the rules the site follows. Last updated 2026-10-22.

Sources

Pages are based only on official US government sources: HealthCare.gov, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Department of Labor's Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Medicare.gov. Insurer marketing, broker sites, blogs and news commentary are not used as the basis for any statement.

Each content page lists its sources at the end, and the full list with what each source is used for is kept with the site's records. Where a source covers one kind of plan, such as Medicare drug plans, the page says so rather than implying it applies to every plan.

Writing

  • Plain English, with each technical term explained the first time it appears and in the glossary.
  • Source material is paraphrased, not copied.
  • General patterns are described as general patterns. Plans differ, and pages say so where it matters.

Numbers and examples

Worked examples use round, invented numbers chosen to make the arithmetic easy. Each one is labelled as an illustrative example, and none describes a real plan, insurer, provider, drug or person. The numbers are not typical costs and should not be read as estimates.

Official dollar limits, such as the highest out-of-pocket maximum a plan may have or the yearly HSA contribution limits, change every year. The site does not repeat those figures; it says where the current ones are published instead.

In one line

If an official government source does not support a statement, it does not belong on this site.

Not advice

The site explains how health insurance generally works. It does not tell anyone which plan to choose, whether to change coverage, or what to do about a medical or financial decision. It does not sell plans, give quotes or recommend insurers, providers or drugs. Your own plan documents decide what your plan covers, and your plan, your employer's benefits office or a licensed professional can answer questions about your situation.

In this first edition, sources are named but not linked, so that every page can be reviewed before any outbound link is added. Any links added later will go only to pages that help the reader. The site does not use affiliate or paid links.

Reviews and corrections

Each content page shows the date it was last reviewed against its sources. Pages will be re-checked when the underlying rules or official pages change. A correction that changes the meaning of a page will be noted on that page with the date. There is no contact route yet, so corrections currently come from that re-checking rather than from reader reports.

Use of AI

The pages were drafted with an AI system from the cited government documents. They have not had an independent human editorial review or a review by a licensed insurance professional. The about page describes how the site was made.
